Executive producer Frank Valentini shared the heartbreaking news on X:
"It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague, @lesliecharleson. Her enduring legacy has spanned nearly 50 years on @GeneralHospital alone and, just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaine family, Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew. I will miss our daily chats, her quick wit, and incredible presence on set. On behalf of everyone at #GeneralHospital, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to her loved ones during this difficult time."
Born on February 22, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, Charleson began her soap opera journey with the short-lived series *A Flame in the Wind* in 1964. She later appeared on *As The World Turns* in 1966. However, it was her iconic portrayal of Monica Quartermaine on *General Hospital*, beginning on August 16, 1977, that cemented her legacy in soap opera history.
Charleson holds the distinction of being the longest-serving actress on General Hospital, portraying Monica with remarkable grace, resilience, and depth. Over an impressive career spanning nearly five decades, she earned four Daytime Emmy nominations (1980, 1982, 1983, and 1995) for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, underscoring her exceptional talent.
Leslie Charleson's passing creates an immense void in the world of daytime drama and deeply touches the hearts of her fans, colleagues, and loved ones. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and the General Hospital community during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Leslie Charleson. Your presence brought joy to so many and you will be profoundly missed.
