According to TV Guide, In a touching tribute, Francis' role as the iconic Laura Spencer, excuse me, MAYOR Laura Collins, will officially open the hospital’s new 'Dr. Monica Quartermaine Cardiac Wing'—a nod to Monica’s invaluable legacy. Genie Francis shared her feelings on the moment, saying, “It’s always nice when they acknowledge the fact that I’m sort of an antique here... I’m historical. I like the feeling of that.”
Although the episode was written before Leslie Charleson’s passing on January 12, it was originally hoped that she would be able to take part. The show plans to honor Monica's legacy in a memorial episode at a later date.
