Soap fans, brace yourselves — Daniel Goddard is making his highly anticipated return to daytime television! Best known for his long-running role as Cane Ashby on The Young and the Restless, Goddard is headed to General Hospital to portray a brand-new character: the mysterious Professor Henry Dalton.

The news, confirmed by TV Insider, comes after months of speculation. Back on January 26th, Goddard teased fans with a cryptic Instagram video, sparking rumors of a comeback. Now, it’s official — and his first episode airs April 15th.
Despite having no immediate plans to return to acting, Goddard describes a cosmic moment that shifted his path. “I was not really thinking about going back to acting,” he revealed. “I had kind of come to terms with that life.” But in December 2024, his former manager, Michael Bruno, reached out about a role on GH. Just days before, Goddard experienced an inexplicable pull toward the soap — an intuitive moment that mirrored one he had before meeting his wife in 1998.
Goddard reported to work in mid-March and stepped into the shoes of Professor Henry Dalton, a faculty member at Port Charles University who teaches environmental physics. But there's more to Henry than meets the eye. “It seems there are some things in his past that he’s done that have left him in a position of some form of investigation,” Goddard teased. “And from there, it’s an absolute mystery to me.”
In his new role, the actor will share scenes with Eden McCoy (Josslyn Jacks) and Genie Francis (Laura Collins), marking a reunion for Goddard and Francis, who once played mother and son (Genevieve and Cane) on The Young and the Restless.
Whether Professor Dalton is friend, foe, or something in between remains to be seen — but one thing’s for sure: Goddard’s return is already creating a buzz.
